United Cup Tennis Tournament Photography

Since its inception as a tournament in 2022, our head of photography James Gourley has worked as official photographer for the United Cup in Sydney, working for client Tennis Australia, providing photographic coverage from tournament lead-up all the way through to the trophy presentation.

Player Portraits

Our first job at the United Cup is to capture the player and team portraits on the media day, working with photographers in Brisbane and Perth to ensure the photos match across the tournament, we shoot hundreds of options through the day in a limited time for broadcasters and online use.

Photo calls and Media Opportunities

Before and during the tournament, teams and individual players take part in several media opportunties, in Perth they travel to Rottnest Island to hang out with Quokkas, and in Sydney they take in the sights, from the Harbour Bridge to Bondi Beach to generate interest and drive ticket sales for the event - We work with the Tennis Australia media team to create the best vision and stills opportunity in the short amount of time we are allowed with the players during their busy training schedules.

On-site branding and commercial stakeholder photography

As with any major event, there are various stakeholders and sponsors that support it, all who require photography from the event. Part of our wide ranging brief is to capture every element of advertising, from court side signage through to activations in the fan zones. Additionally we had briefs to capture staff and volunteer portraits throughout the grounds to use for future HR purposes.

Customer and fan engagement

A major part of our brief was to capture as much content showing fan engagement at the United Cup as possible - This ranged from capturing candid moments of people enjoying the event around Ken Rosewall Arena, and setting up photo opportunities to highlight specific elements of the event.

Live editing and delivery

As the United Cup is a major international event, with global interest, Tennis Australia require a constant flow of imagery throughout each day to fuel its various channels and to provide global media with access to high quality content from every element of the Competition.

Tennis Photography

Last but by no means least, coverage of the matches, training and behind the scenes of the tournament was the main element of the brief. Photos were used across digital and social platforms (by the tournament, ATP and individual players), as well as being distributed via Tennis Australia’s own distribution network to editorial clients.

No event too big or small

Whilst no two events are the same, we pride ourselves on being able to adapt to any challenges that organisers can throw at us. Fast paced, constantly changing events such as the United Cup can definitely throw a challenge or two in the mix, but at publishd we thrive on the pressure to make the best content possible.
